How to Get the Entrepreneurial Spirit - Part 1

Although many people aspire to become entrepreneurs, very few are born with the entrepreneurial spirit. I am sure you've heard of people who were considered to be born businessmen or businesswomen. Such people were out selling things as kids before they learned how to read and write. Most of us, however, learned the importance of entrepreneurship much later in life after observing how the world works.

You can develop entrepreneurial characteristics in time through experience and education. In other words, you don’t have to be born an entrepreneur to become a successful one. You can acquire the necessary skills and characteristics or hire people with such skills. Below is a more detailed discussion on how you can become a successful entrepreneur when you don’t have the entrepreneurship spirit.

1. Embrace the entrepreneurial mindset

It’s possible to become a successful entrepreneur through education and experience. You can take an entrepreneurship course and start a business or study one to learn the ropes. To do this successfully, you must first of all embrace the entrepreneurial mindset. Taking business classes won’t do you any good if you don’t believe in yourself.  You need to have strong beliefs and convictions because entrepreneurship comes with many challenges. Those who are easily discouraged by others won’t get very far as entrepreneurs. The entrepreneurial mindset also demands constant innovation. If you look at some of the most successful entrepreneurs of all times, like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, they became successful through constant invention and innovation.

2. Hire innovators

If getting the entrepreneurial mindset doesn't sound like something you’re comfortable with, you can take a different path and hire innovators. Entrepreneurship is driven by many things, the most notable being innovation. Innovators are people who constantly think of better ways of doing things that make good business sense. When you hire innovators for your company, you won’t have to worry as much about being an innovator yourself. The most successful people in life are those that recognize their weaknesses and deal with them.

3. Encourage innovation

If you can’t hire innovators in your company, you can make efforts to encourage innovation in your business. Start by creating the perfect working environment in your company where highly talented individuals are recognized and promoted for their skills regardless of their experience, age or position. Creating healthy competition in your company will encourage your employees to succeed and participate in realizing the company’s vision. You can also encourage innovation by hosting regular brainstorming sessions to get access to the best ideas.

What do you think? Do you have the entrepreneurial spirit or did you choose another way to create a successful business?
